JohnJohn on Movies

I have to admit..I'm such a big movie fan. I probably go to the movies every weekend; and on top of that, I've also subscribed to Netflix for 3-movies-at-a-time (By the way, this doesn't mean that I stay at home all the time and watch my Netflix movies. I might be a big movie buff, but I'm not a couch-potato!).

Having movie discussions with one of my co-workers (let's just call him JohnJohn) around lunch time is also something that I really enjoy doing. Sometimes we do it in person; other times we just do it over IM. It's actually pretty nice way to start your lunch time - talk a little bit about some big-budget chick flick that failed to make box office or some weird Korean/Japanese movies that involve a girl being electrocuted or a guy cutting his own tongue with a pair of scissors.

So I've decided to post our IM convos (between me - Haceem, and JohnJohn) since I've found them pretty hillarious. JohnJohn, if you read this, please don't be offended. Don't worry, I won't reveal your true identity here in my blog...heh heh heh

--- On Match Point... ---
JohnJohn: have you seen Match Point?
Haceem: yes
JohnJohn: is it any good?
Haceem: oh yeah...it's really good
Haceem: it's a little bit different though compared to his other movies
Haceem: you'll like it
JohnJohn: my wife is insisting we watch National Treasure next
Haceem: oh no
Haceem: please don't
Haceem: seriously
Haceem: it's entertaining..but it's simply dumb
Haceem: get match point..i'm sure you both will love it
JohnJohn: i think i have to... she's brought it up everytime my net flix come in "Boogie Nights? Mystery Science Theater? When are we going to see National Treasure?"
JohnJohn: I might do Nat. Treasure and The Island back to back
Haceem: HAHAHA!
Haceem: ohhh the island? man i don't think you'll enjoy that one
JohnJohn: i need to get her to settle down about these crappy movies
Haceem: it sucks...the only good thing about that movie is scarlet johannson
Haceem: everything else pretty much sucks...

--- On Nacho Libre... ---
Haceem: see Nacho Libre man...
Haceem: ..i forgot to tell you. i actually saw it last weekend. it was hillarious
JohnJohn: trailers look kind of stupid
Haceem: couldn't stop laughing during the movie..jack black was funny as hell..
Haceem: nooo
Haceem: trust me
Haceem: you'll love it
Haceem: it's so hillarious

--- On The Ringer... ---
JohnJohn: you watched THe Ringer?!!
Haceem: hahah yes
Haceem: mann that movie is sooo funnyy
Haceem: it's just so wrong..but funny as hell!
JohnJohn: dude... its like... making fun of retarded people. What the hell?
Haceem: hey like i said, it's wrong...
Haceem: ...but it's funnyyy
Haceem: funny thing was, when i watched it, i was really impressed with how good the actors were - playing as idiots..later i realized when i watched the "behind the scenes", they were really retarted.
JohnJohn: you are a terrible person
Haceem: HAHAHAHA

--- On Meteor Man?! ---
Haceem: another movie recommendation for you..
Haceem: http://theory.isthereason.com/?p=1043
JohnJohn: awesome. I bet its even better than Meteor Man
Haceem: it's broken link
JohnJohn: weird. oh well.

--- On some cheesy classic movies... ---
Haceem: Paul (Paul Schneider) lives in a small Southern town where he's made a sexual conquest of nearly every single, eligible female. Every one, that is, except for his best friend's sister, Noel (Zooey Deschanel), a committed virgin. When Paul falls unexpectedly for Noel, he swears he's not out for sex and seeks to prove it -- but he finds love much harder to manage than plain lust.
Haceem: you recommended this movie to me?
Haceem: geez man..just by reading the story, i know it's going to suck
JohnJohn: then why would somebody give it 5 stars? Somebody who also gave 81/2, North by Northwest and Breathless the same rating?
JohnJohn: those are all film classics
JohnJohn: So... watch it and tell me.
Haceem: north by northwest?? what movie is that? is it about an airplane or something?
Haceem: breathless??
Haceem: classic huh? you meant, classic chick flicks?
JohnJohn: I can understand that you don't recognize Breathless... but North by Northwest? Hitchcock? Gregory Peck?
Haceem: ow hitchcock...heh i guess it must be in b&w
JohnJohn: uh. no, its not. jeez
JohnJohn: maybe you should put THAT on your queu instead
Haceem: breathless..what is it about? is it a cowboy movie?
JohnJohn: no. it is not about cowboys.
Haceem: well then what is it about?
JohnJohn: its a french movie from the late fifties/early 60s. It's in black and white. Its a big deal because it used jump cuts
Haceem: it's not chick-flick, is it?
Haceem: ow b&w
JohnJohn: I don't think they had "chick flicks" back then
Haceem: heh no wonder i hadn't heard about it before
Haceem: i think they did..but the term was not popular back then
Haceem: jump cuts?
JohnJohn: yeah... like... you know in old movies how they have "scenes"... like, the mom comes in with a plate of cookies for the kids, and they talk and then mom walks out and they play some music and they go on to the next scene. A jump cut would just get rid of all the mom walling into the room bullshit
JohnJohn: its used in movies and shows so much you dont even notice it anymore
JohnJohn: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breathless
Haceem: hmm ok..
Haceem: sounds pretty interesting
Haceem: although..i highly doubt i'll know anyone from the movie
JohnJohn: what.. in Breathless?
Haceem: yea
JohnJohn: yeah, not so much
Haceem: i think i'm going to add it to my queue someday..when i run out of movies to see on netflix
Haceem: another recommendation: Hollow Man 2
Haceem: saw it last night
JohnJohn: you shuold have an eternal supply as long as Stephen Segal keeps making his epics
JohnJohn: Hollow Man 2? Are you kidding?
JohnJohn: how can that movie not suck?
Haceem: hahahhaa
Haceem: actually forget hollow man 2
Haceem: are you in the mood of watching something romantic?
JohnJohn: wtf?
Haceem: i'd recommend One Fine Day
JohnJohn: what the hell isthat?
Haceem: i'm just asking
Haceem: One Fine Day...george clooney and michele pfeifer
Haceem: you haven't seen it?? mann that's what i call a classic
Haceem: it was made in 96
Haceem: in color...which is better
Haceem: hahahha
JohnJohn: yeah, now I remember that. That movie bombed
JohnJohn: it was supposed to be terrible
Haceem: nooo it wasn't
Haceem: it was actually pretty good...i happened to be listening to its soundtrack right now..that's why i figure i'd recommend you to see the movie
JohnJohn: and yet you won't watch the movie I reccommended?
Haceem: becausee....
Haceem: ...you keep recommending me to see all these b&w movies
Haceem: i get headache everytime i see b&w movies...
JohnJohn: what are you talking about? I never reccommended a b&w movie!
Haceem: i feel like i'm color blind or something
Haceem: i thought you said breathless was in b&w
JohnJohn: this is a romance movie! It sounded like dawson's creek! That is right up your alley!
Haceem: HAHAHA
JohnJohn: yeah, Breathless is... I never reccommended that though
JohnJohn: the other one
JohnJohn: you need to watch the other one
Haceem: ow the other one...
Haceem: ok the plane movie
JohnJohn: nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Haceem: northwest something, right?
JohnJohn: all the real girls
Haceem: oww all the real girls
Haceem: gotcha
Haceem: man this movie is only about sex
Haceem: it sounds like this french movie that i saw a couple of years ago..it's an indie french movie
Haceem: it was about a brother and sister living together and they play sex games or something. one day, one of their friends come to visit and stay with them. eventually, he ends up participating in these games
Haceem: it was pretty sick
JohnJohn: and what does this have to do with "all the real girls"? I guess there is kissing in both....

--- On Lady in the Water... ---
JohnJohn: yeah, I might get it from Netflix. The eagles and narfs or whatever don't bother me (I like Lord of the Rings). M. Night Shyamalamanan being in half the movie DOES bother me
Haceem: oh yeah!!
Haceem: he was one of the main characters!!
Haceem: i think he did a pretty good job playing his character....but didn't do a good job directing this movie
Haceem: i like the concept and the storyline....but i think the editing that made this movie bad
JohnJohn: no. i hate seeing Smalayanana in his movies. Its like "hire an actor ok, mr fancy pants."
JohnJohn: well... I'll netflix it
Haceem: it's Shamalan, john
JohnJohn: Shmhlananana
Haceem: well usually he would only show up for like 5 mins in his movies
Haceem: but this one is an exception...
Haceem: he was in half of the movie!
